Mauna Kea is true to its time yet timeless.
Pan-Pacific authentic meet Mid Century modern, sleek and teak with tangerine to pop ocean blue. The exuberance of pattern is the Islands. We never forget that our guests are here to let go their own particular world and breath deep another. And so they return, again and again, in waves of generations.
Look but do touch.
Mauna Kea curators had nearly a half-century head start on what has since become The Pacific Century. Imagine their findings back then as they combed Asia and Oceania for art.
By design, Mauna Kea is far more gracious, open beach house than museum. The collection of better than 1,600 pieces roams freely – a surprise around the corner, a what's that at the end of the hall or a Hawaiian quilt of a thousand meticulous stitches mounted just outside your door. It does a soul good to stroll among the genuine.
What was, is ever so stylish.
Mauna Kea joie de vivre carries to the dining venues. Cuisine ranges from Classical French to Italian, Californian, Southern Regional, Pacific Rim and Macrobiotic. Expect a Hawaii twist and emphasis on farm to table.
Fashions shown in this introduction to Mauna Kea were provided by our long time friend, Hawaii's leading house, Tori Richard. True to the Mauna Kea, each ensemble is drawn from their 1960s archives.
